Endoscopic sphincterotomy means the endoscopic opening of the papilla and the sphincter apparatus in order to gain access to the biliary and pancreatic ducts. The main area of application is the treatment of choledocholithiasis as part of an ERCP procedure, as well as the treatment of biliary and pancreatic duct stenoses.
